eCOMMERCE POSITIONS
Director, Social Media
POSITION PURPOSE:
Urban Decay is one of the biggest beauty brands in social media! The Director, Social Media develops and executes a comprehensive social media program across multiple platforms. The right candidate will maintain the energy of our passionate online audience with engaging, educational, on-trend content creation: scheduled posts, contests, video, and answers to consumer questions. Our goal is to increase the size of our communities, amplify our influence online, position Urban Decay as a friendly industry expert, and drive sales to UrbanDecay.com and to our retail partners. The Director, Social Media will be a hybrid role which will include providing the editorial content, development of blogger outreach, and performing as an analyst; using reporting through tools such as Google Analytics, Wildfire, Radian6 and Bazaarvoice. The tools will be used on a weekly basis to inform decisions around of the best communication cadence by channel, and to understand our most successful content and how it should be used to drive sales on ud.com. The right candidate will understand mining data across all media types; such as video and blog content, as well as devices such as mobile and tablet. In terms of analysis, they have to be able to understand and articulate not only what has happened in any given campaign, but also to examine why it happened, and to provide actionable insight to team members.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop unique content for all Urban Decay social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+. This includes daily posts, copy, photos and video. Leverage both what assets are readily available at Urban Decay, and work with third parties to create additional assets as needed and budgeted. Work with departments like Product Development and PR to develop exciting editorial content, including behind-the-scenes, look how-to instructionals, etc.
- Ensure excellent customer service through timely, accurate and engaging responses to customer inquiries submitted through social networks.
- Serve as exclusive PR point of contact for all bloggers. Develop and execute blogger PR plan. Secure online press through identifying and establishing relationships with key influencers in beauty and fashion industry.
- Develop editorial video strategy and calendar.
- Work with Digital group to understand their needs for online video and collaborates with them on strategy.
- Produce engaging viral videos that deepen customer relationship with the brand and educational videos that "sell" product. This includes storyboarding and owning the production process.
- Coordinate all video production with third party vendors and in-house talent.
- Develop brand standards for international social media. Oversee country brand ambassadors’ social engagement and adherence to global brand identity.
- Work with web designer to create graphics for seasonal online updates across all platforms.
- Maintain voice and identity of Urban Decay Cosmetics throughout all platforms.
- Assist Sales Department with video requests.
- Works with eCommerce/Marketing team management on ways to execute overarching strategy for Social Media that will include brand building and social signals for search.
- Works daily with eCommerce Marketing Manager on execution of the eCommerce Marketing Strategy. Helps with tactical execution as needed.
- Monitors and tracks performance of SM posts through reporting and analysis.
- Looks for ways to increase interactions and improve post virality.
- Develops unique and timely promotional campaigns featuring incentives to join the social communities such as exclusive content, contests, or insider access.
- Through various tools, determines our 'top customers' and 'top contributors' and works with Digital team on short and long-term plans to reward and grow this tier.
- Must be committed to uncovering positive customer behaviors in terms of conversion, content creation and distribution and help to encourage more of these behaviors.
- Works with the team on CRM plan and execution.
- Tracks video 'watch metrics' and makes associated optimization recommendations.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:
- Must have a passion for and extensive knowledge of social media, including all major networks, blogs and video blogs, photo/video sharing, etc.
- Must have a deep understanding of each social media platform; corresponding rules/laws, changing offerings/news/analytical tools.
- Working knowledge of social networks' admin functions and third party apps (Wildfire, Buddy Media or similar)
- Develop tactics that will meet or exceed the long-term goals and short-term objectives for both Social and Digital (eCommerce).
- MUST have strong writing skills: Manager will serve as the voice of Urban Decay to the outside world, and will supervise the writing and style of others.
- Knowledgeable of best practices with regard to user interaction.
- A hip personality is important for maintaining brand credibility. Should possess knowledge of trends, pop culture, some fashion, and lots of cosmetic industry knowledge – or be excited to learn! Monitor trends via real-time reporting and identify ways the company can leverage current topics of interest.
- Knowledge of blogging ecosystem relevant to the beauty industry. (Or show knowledge in another area which displays ability/desire to learn our industry.)
- Working knowledge of social networks' admin functions and third party apps (such as Context Optional, Buddy Media, or similar).
- Understanding of online analytics, Google analytics, and Wildfire a plus.
- Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign a plus.
- Standard MS Office required.
- Resourcefulness in solving problems and in searching and seeking out relevant content and partners.
- Strong project management skills with an emphasis on prioritization and multiple project organization.
- Determined to better the brand on a daily basis.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Education/Experience/ Licenses or Certificates:
- Four-year degree preferred.
- 3-5 years experience in a similar position.
- MUST have professional social media experience.
- Software/applications as listed above.
