TrippyRatings SummarySurreal Skin 139 1395-minutes! I am always in a hurry in the mornings. It takes me about 25 minutes to apply my make-up, thus having to wake up earlier. When I ordered this online I really thought you would be able to open it up and use a brush to apply it. When I noticed that the sponge didn't come off I was bummed. But after I figured out how to use it I was amazed at how fast, easy, simple and clean this mineral make-up applies. It has definitely saved me time in the mornings and now I apply everything I need in less than 5 minutes. Use it with the De-Slick Oil control make-up spray and never worry about touching up your make-up throughout the day. February 28, 2012Amazing First, YOU CAN TAKE THE SPONGE OFF TO CLEAN IT OUT!! If you look closely where it connects to the powder container, the sponge part is just a cover, and it comes off!!!! About the actual product... I use the Urban Decay Powder Brush instead of the sponge, and I get a flawless look when I use this. I love Urban Decay, and decided to try this when the had their F&F sale. You need so little of this powder for your whole face. This is the smoothest I've ever had my make up look, and it looks perfecct. And it stays on all day!! August 5, 2011Lab rats need not apply I like the formula of UD's Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup very much. My only problem with it is even the lightest shades are a little bit too dark for my complexion (I try to get enough vitamin D every day but you know how it is), so I can only wear this during the summer. The packaging is also a little bit tough; for those reasons I removed one star. You can screw the lid completely off to clean the puff, but it's too troublesome to do as often as I'd like. Overall a good product, but for $30 I might look elsewhere for a better shade. July 28, 2011Never the Mineral type, now I can't live without this product. When I approached the UD counter looking for a foundation for summer, it was suggested I try the Mineral powder. Never a fan, I was weary as to how this would be different from the many chances I had given other brands that feature mineral products exclusively. After explaining my skin type and "shiny" issues, the sales associate suggested the tinted moisturizer as a base with the mineral powder over it for a flawless matte look. I was surprised and satisfied with my purchase. July 26, 2011I wanted to love this but.... I have basically everything UD, so naturally I had to try this. I bought the "supernova" based on a sephora employees recommendation. Besides that being the wrong shade, it irritated my skin when I applied it. My cheeks felt a slight burn. I also do not like the buffer. I have the razor sharp which has the same function and it's useless. What I do is open the container and take a powder brush and apply it that way. The buffer will take your makeup off. Needless to say, I had to "leave it". February 27, 2012Love love love love! This makeup will cover up even the worst blemishes and totally even out and perfect your skin tone. Wear just a tad for a natural look or layer on the coverage for flawless skin all day. Even with multiple layers this powder is so light and breathable you'll feel makeup free. This was my first UD product and I've used about a dozen of these little spheres since. The packaging is innovative and chic but if you want full coverage youll need to tap some powder into the cap and apply with a powder brush. I promise you this powder will not let you down! February 6, 2012Amazing product in a weird package Love, love love the Vision shade. Very easy to blend it into the skin and looks like I don't have any makeup on. I had a real hard time finding a shade that matched and this was a perfect match. I have acne and acne scarring, I need to use a concealer or liquid make on those areas. I don't like the applicator sponge. I have oily skin and I break out so I don't want to reuse a sponge on my face. I took some of the product and am using a generic case that can hold mineral powder. The generic case is much smaller and therefore it is also portable. November 3, 2011Excellent! Absolutely love it! This is the best mineral foundation I've ever tried! I have a lot of acne scarring and some rosacea and this is the only thing I've tried that truly covers it up without the feeling of having a ton of stuff on my face. I'm truly never going back to anything I've used in the past (and it was alot)! And to top it off, they have a color that matches my skin perfectly. February 27, 2012Great product, not great packaging The actual quality of this product is great. It's superfine and covers any blemishes and scars I may have quite well if I buff it in really well. It has also never made me break out, which is amazing. I switched from another highly popular mineral makeup to this one because, while it doesn't keep me matte all day, when the shine does set in I look more glowy than mirror-shiny, which is actually a big improvement. The only odd thing is that I wear the shade Illusion, which is the lightest one, and I am definitely a more light-medium, verging on olive skintone, so this is definitely not for the porcelain-skinned. Also, the puff is super annoying and I've never gotten it to work right, so I just transferred it into another makeup jar and apply it with a kabuki brush. February 5, 2012Coverage with a light feel! I love this alone and as a setting powder. I love the convenience of the sponge, but I do prefer using a powder brush to apply it. It give a nice coverage and does not feel heavy at all. It really does a nice job of evening out my skin and lasts for a decent amount of time. August 31, 2011Great product, disappointing applicator. I really love the mineral powder, it gives great coverage and is light and keeps skin smooth. However, I was really disappointed with the applicator. When I tried using it, it felt like I was spreading my other makeup and concealer all over my face. Luckily I was able to pop off the applicator and use a brush to apply it, but the product was relatively expensive and it's disappointing that I couldn't use the given applicator. Overall, I would recommend the product, and if the applicator works for you, I'm jealous! October 7, 2012A surreal struggle. Matching my skin color usually isn't hard with UD products, this time however, it was. Surreal Skin looks like it comes in a fairly decent range of shades, but it doesn't go very light. I decided to go with the lightest possible, and hope, since I really wanted to try the product. The lightest shade was still Way too dark. I ended up having to purchase a drug store brand, and mix the two, which was a trade off - lowering the quality but lightening the pigment. My other issue with this product was the strange application process. The "pouf" on the container supposedly lets you apply it dirrectly to your face, but the only way I could get any powder on my skin was to practically beat myself with it. Eventually I gave up, and opted to use a foundation brush, which went on much smoother. The product itself is Very smooth, light and silky. It evens the complexion, but doesn't cake up in creases or around the eyes the way a cheaper brand would. I really Love this product, but the container needs work, and I'll never be able to use it until they come out with a fair shade that's really fair. February 14, 2012LOVE THIS STUFF As a recent transplant to New Orleans where it is hot and humid all the time I had to find something light and durable, with excellent coverage. Everyone was telling me to go with mineral make up but I have always hated it -- until I found this. Pop off the weird sponge and apply with brush and it is fantastic. Want it to look even better? Use the pore perfecting primer and it couldn't be any more flawless. Its fast and incredible. Thank you, Urban Decay. I will definitely be buying this again! December 28, 2011A Surreal Experience I had a difficult time finding a foundation that matched my criteria. I wanted one that of course, matched my skintone, was lightweight and would last a while. I was pleased to find that Surreal Skin worked wonderfully. I had never tried a mineral foundation before but was very pleased with the results. Very lightweight which I love and a little goes a long way so the price doesn't bother me. Highly recommended. August 20, 2011Great coverage for a loose powder I started my UD collection with this loose powder. I'm in the shade Hallucination which blends great on my skin. It has medium coverage but you can apply more to get full on coverage. I love to use this to set the Naked Skin Foundation. It's long lasting and looks amazing! The downside is the packaging. I don't like the applicator at all because I feel like I'm wasting products, especially when this is worth over $30. To deal with this problem, I just remove the cap completely and pour some into the lid so I can dip my brush on the product. This way, it'll save me more money. March 10, 2013Awesome awesome product!!! I use this over my Urban Defense Tinted Moisturizer, and my concealer, and it looks so good!!! It's not shiny, and it makes my skin look flawless. It also lasts all day, and so far, is the best finishing powder I've ever used. I would recommend this to anyone. I also have problem skin, so a product that covers my skin nicely is definitely worth my time and attention. Please, please, please UD, don't ever stop making this product!!! However, I have one negligible gripe with this product and that is purely related to packaging. I always have to remove the cover and use a brush to get into the product myself. The pouf on top is difficult to use, and I really thing it'd be better off in just a simple jar, no pouf on top. February 14, 2012Amazing coverage. Applicator needs improvement. I was searching for a mineral powder foundation that provides excellent coverage and is also cruelty free. I found what I was looking for in this product. My only complaint is the applicator. I removed the sponge that's included because my skin tends to be dry and I couldn't get even coverage using it. Instead I use a flat brush, but I end up wasting a lot of the product in the process. I will still continue to purchase it, however. I will just be more careful! April 19, 2012LOVE LOVE LOVE! I got this product last fall and I adore it! First of all it's extremely easy to apply and also easy to control the amount of coverage that you get. Second, it's very portable and easy for bathroom touch ups. The applicator does get covered fairly fast, depending on how much you use it, but it's still one of my favorite UD products! It's great for a finished look for after applying liquid foundation, or even just light coverage or touch ups! February 1, 2012caused break outs I really really wanted to love this makeup, I liked everything about it...how the powder felt, the coverage was great but not too fakey. Love that it is mineral based but for my sensitive skin this was not a good idea. I broke out in acne like I have not seen since I was a teen. Once I quit using the makeup my skin cleared up. Really too bad because this seems to be a great qualtiy product from UD. The puff is really dumb though. February 6, 2012Covers naturally I LOVE Surreal Skin foundation! I have light brown hair, hazel eyes, and what I would call a medium skin tone, but my cheeks and face are very flushed all the time. It is hard for me to find something that REALLY evens and smooths my skin tone, but this did it! It goes on evenly and does a great job of covering without looking "cakey." Worth every penny! Thanks, Urban Decay, for making amazing, quality products at a decent price! February 29, 2012Would be great if you had my shade!! This is an amazing foundation, if you can find a matching shade. I, however, cannot. I purchased Illusion, which matched perfectly in the Cream to Powder Surreal Skin foundation. It wasn't even close to matching my skin in this form, though! I don't know why it was such a huge difference, but it was extremely orange, like I had a HORRIBLE fake tan. UD, please please please release more shades for this mineral foundation! February 16, 2012Makes perfect-looking skin I use this product in illusion for touch-ups (blemishes and under the eyes). I'm really not crazy about the sponge on the top of this. The sponge has gotten disgustingly dirty and the powder doesn't even seem to come out of it that well. I picked up a concealer brush and have been opening the powder up and just getting it out of there. It goes on evenly, blends into my skin perfectly, and makes me look like I have flawless skin. It stays on all day and even looks great as I'm leaving work. Except for the sponge application, this product is perfect! February 14, 2012My favorite mineral make up It was love at first use with this product. It was recommended to me at a store where i usually purchase make up and I'm glad it was. It has great coverage without having to use other heavy products like foundation. I love the sponge applicator although at times it is a little hard to use. I think its better than other more messy mineral make up options, however i do feel like some of the product goes to waste. The quality of the product is worth it though and i've read that others use a brush applicator as well. Definitely will be re purchasing! February 28, 2012Great for light coverage I've heard a lot of complaints about the packaging for this product, however I've had no problem with it. Loosening the lid a little bit in the "open" direction seems to do the trick, and I always get enough product out. I'm not a fan of heavy makeup, so this is the perfect foundation for me. Lightweight, a good match for my skin, and it doesn't feel like I'm wearing makeup. February 6, 2012Terribly disappointed. I have never had a bad thing to say about Urban Decay make-up. Everything I've ever bought has been fabulous. Until now. This powder foundation is AWFUL! The applicator does NOT work! You can't get the powder on properly using their "system". Terrible. Using my own brush with the make-up, it feels extra drying compared to other mineral make-ups I've used in the past. Very cakey, and accents any imperfections. DO NOT recommend. There are many other, less expensive, mineral makeups out there to waste your time, or money, with this one. April 22, 2012Totally Recommend! I am very happy with the surreal skin foundation alternative as it is something you can use when you are not in the mood for applying cream/liquid foundation. The shade that I own is "universal" and I think it is a makeup essential. It's a good brightner and covers up slight blemishes and discolorations when applied. Unlike liquid foundations, this product is gives you a light, airy feeling after being worn and it has a matte-like finish. I really like the packaging however, I'm not sure how well it applies with the sponge, that covers the container, as I've never used it. I use my makeup brush to put it on and it works well with that. Overall, I really like this product and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in only the make-up essentials. March 9, 2013nice powder, applicator needs work. i love the idea behind this applicator but it is a pain to use. it takes forever to get the powder to initially come through. eventually i transferred the powder to another container. the powder itself is very nice. i usually like light coverage but it is buildable for days you might need a little extra. i have very fair skin and it is hard to find a nice, sheer, pale powder that doesn't either look white or too dark to be natural. the shade "illusion" is a pretty good match, and because it goes on sheer it's easy to work with. February 16, 2012EXCELLENT Product, Poor Applicator! I was introduced to UD mineral powder at an Ulta store, by an associate doing a color match for me. It was the only powder to match my skin tone without giving me a 'pink' tone. I have olive skin and Mirage is the perfect match for me. I love it, HOWEVER, I HATE the applicator!! It is not easy to use at all. Unfortunately, I lose a lot of the product applying it by removing the puff, and it can get messy. If this product had a 'normal' applicator it would be hands down the best ever. I actually went to my old 'high end' make up counter with my UD powder as a sample and could not find anything to match - just because I can't deal with the stupid applicator, but no luck - so I am stuck using this silly applicator because the powder is like no other. Please get rid of the puff!! May 16, 2013It's a decent powder My main problem with this powder was the fact that the applicator would take the makeup off my face. The powder was nice but I felt that it put an orange cast on my fair skin. If you have darker skin and removed the applicator this would be an amazing powder for you, it just didn't work out for me. February 1, 2012Mineral Love On Urban Decay's Surreal Skin Mineral Powder Foundation: I am in between having young skin and mature skin, and oily to boot with visible pores, and although I have tried many different powder and mineral-enriched powder foundations out there, I have never quite found anything like this one; I am in mineral love! I use UD's liners, eye primer, and eyeshadows, and thought I'd give a UD foundation a try, and I'm so glad I did! I popped the puff off the bottle and I use a kabuki brush to get an almost totally flawless, nearly airbrushed look with just the right amount of coverage when applied over moisturizer. I have been searching for years for a foundation like this, and I recommend this to anyone wanting an easy foundation routine with real results. This stuff is fantastic! December 15, 2012The WordPro TipsFor precise shading and concealing, makeup junkies can unscrew the lid and use a Good Karma Blush Brush instead of the attached puff.
