Happy New Year! If you’re ready to kick start 2017 with a freshly organized space, we’re here to help. We suggest beginning with something that brings you tons of happiness—your makeup arsenal.
We’ve partnered with the experts at Mr. Kate to bring you five tips that’ll get your makeup organized beyond belief. Just check out what Mr. Kate did for beauty icons Manny Gutierrez (@mannymua733) and PatrickStarrr (@patrickstarrr)!
1 - Be realistic about how much stuff you actually have.
Do yourself a favor and organize the makeup you have in cheap cardboard boxes before planning or acting on any organizational designs. This way you can see the bulk of what needs to go into drawers or a closet. Nothing would be sadder than fixing up this brand-new system and not having enough room for all your products!
2 - Pick appropriate furniture.
Based off your stock from the first step, assess what piece (or pieces) of furniture would best contain all of the products. Patrick’s room fortunately had a closet we could use for all of his makeup, but for Manny’s room, we decided two dressers would do the job better than one! A good way to make this decision is to physically measure the boxes you organized your makeup in (as mentioned in the first tip), and use those numbers as a reference when you shop around.
3 - You can’t have too many containers!
No matter how many drawers you have, the more specific you can be when organizing your makeup, the easier it is to find what you’re looking for every single time. Whether you use deep boxes, prefer shallow lids or just want a divider system, spend the time giving your makeup organization its own system.
4 - Embrace labels.
This is another tip about doing yourself a favor. After organizing everything and putting it in its place, don’t rely on memory to know where everything goes! Fortunately, there are really chic ways to label your makeup organization, as seen with Patrick Starrr’s custom closet, which featured beautiful brass labels from Amazon. If you’re working with boxes, use a calligraphy pen to write some sophisticated script across them.
5 - Display your favorites.
With makeup packaging being so well-designed nowadays, it’s a shame to store it all away! Keep a few favorite products that you want nearby in a cute display that serves as a showcase! This DIY Copper Pipe Makeup Organizer or apothecary jars are great options!
