In regard to Urban Decay mascara, “vegan” means that our mascara does not contain any animal by-products or animal-derived ingredients. This includes, but is not limited to, beeswax, honey, lanolin, collagen, albumen, carmine, cholesterol, gelatin, and more.

The number of coats of mascara you should apply largely depends on the eye makeup look you’re going for. For defined, natural-looking everyday lashes, 1-2 coats of mascara are perfect, allowing the first coat to become slightly tacky before brushing on the next one for clump-free lashes. For bold, ultra-black pigment and voluminous, dramatic eyelashes, layer 3 or more coats of mascara to build up the intensity.

Lash primer is known and loved for its ability to increase both volume and length of lashes while also conditioning them to help protect lashes from breakage over time. It acts as a base coat, allowing mascara to adhere more evenly and last longer throughout the day. Using a primer before your mascara can also enhance the intensity of the pigment for fuller, more dramatic looking lashes.

Mascara can flake for several reasons. When mascara dries out, either due to age or frequent exposure to air, it becomes more prone to flaking throughout the day. To prevent your mascara from drying out too soon, make sure not to over-pump the wand because this introduces air that can dry out the bulk. Replace your mascara every 3-6 months once opened for both optimal performance and hygiene.

Waterproof mascaras are specifically formulated to resist water, sweat, and humidity, which means they adhere to your lashes much more firmly than regular mascaras. Despite their resilience, waterproof mascaras can be removed easily with an oil-based makeup remover or cleanser. Oil-based formulas are designed to dissolve the long-wearing ingredients without excessive rubbing.
